What he's done is amazing and it was fun to watch. I have 2 questions:
- Will he return in 2012? I'd bet not - what else is there to do when anything less than 8 golds and 7 WR's would be a letdown?
- Will he make millions in sponsorships? Again, I'd bet not. He's going to make money, that's for sure, but I don't see him as the global superstar I've heard some predicting. I'm thinking Mary Lou Retton, not Michael Jordan.
Which, I guess, leads to question #3, why don't Olympic champions make better livings off of sponsorships (those, unlike Kobe, without a professional sport to fall back on)? Not enough time in the public eye? Wrong sport?
Thoughts on Phelps and the Olympics in general?
